Nikkei share average edged higher as the market looked to the Federal policy decision later in the global day, while Toshiba jumped after it announced share buyback.
Shares in Sharp were up 3% in morning trading in Tokyo after the company said its board would meet to consider buying Toshiba personal computer business.
