    China says hopes Trump-Kim summit can happen as planned

    Beijing: China’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday it hoped a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, originally set for Singapore next month, could happen as planned and be successful.

    Direct dialogue between the leaders of the United States and North Korea is crucial to resolving the nuclear issue, the ministry said in a statement sent to Reuters.

    Four Russian military personnel killed in Syria's Deir al-Zor - Ifax

    Moscow: Four Russian military personnel were killed in fighting in eastern Syria’s Deir al-Zor province, Interfax news agency reported on Sunday, citing the Russian Defence Ministry.

    The fighting erupted after several groups of rebels attacked an artillery battery of the Syrian army, the ministry said. Two Russian military advisers who directed the fire of the Syrian battery were killed on the spot. Five other personnel were injured and taken to a Russian military hospital. Two of them died from their wounds.The ministry said that 43 rebels had been killed in the same fighting, Interfax reported.

    Iran security forces to confront unrest that serves US: Judiciary

    Dubai: Iranian security forces will “resolutely confront” unrest that could be exploited by the United States and other enemies, a judiciary spokesman said on Sunday, after a wave of protests over mostly economic issues across Iran.

    “Judicial and security bodies ... will resolutely confront any group or individual that wants to compromise the country’s security,” said Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the judiciary’s news website Mizanonline reported, adding that fomenting unrest was part of U.S. “psychological warfare” against Iran.

    Kim expressed 'fixed will' on June 12 summit with Trump in meeting with Moon: KCNA

    North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed “his fixed will” on a possible June 12 summit with US President Donald Trump in a meeting with the president of South Korea, North Korea’s state news agency said.

    During what it called in-depth discussions, Kim and South Korea’s Moon Jae-in agreed to hold high-level talks between their two nations on June 1, news agency KCNA said.

    S Korea's Moon hopes Trump-Kim summit goes ahead as planned

    Seoul: After a surprise meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Saturday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he hopes that US President Donald Trump keeps his planned meeting with Kim in June, Seoul-based news agency Yonhap reported Sunday.

    The meeting was the latest dramatic turn in a week of diplomatic flip-flops surrounding the prospects for an unprecedented summit between the US and N Korea, and the strongest sign yet that the two Korean leaders are trying to keep the on-again off-again summit on track. Kim said he feels closer to Moon after talking again, Yonhap reported.

    Putin, after meeting Japan's Abe, calls for restraint on N Korea

    Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin called on all sides involved in the situation around North Korea to show restraint, while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said it was vital Pyongyang completely shed itself of all nuclear weapons.

    The two men made the comments at a news conference in Moscow after discussing North Korea and other geopolitical issues.

    Trump says still looking at June 12 summit with Kim

    Washington: US President Donald Trump said he was still looking at a June 12 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, adding that talks were progressing very well.

    “We’re doing very well in terms of the summit with North Korea,” Trump said at the White House. “It’s moving along very nicely. So we’re looking at June 12th in Singapore. That hasn’t changed. So, we’ll see what happens.”
